Can rubbing alcohol be used to rid mites in a dogs ear2007-11-25 3:00:07

My little one's ear is really itchy and it looks like small black things in her ear , I am looking for a home remedy.

You need to have ear mites diagnosed and treated by a veterinarian. There is no home remedy that I am aware of to treat this problem.

Walmart and most stores that carry pet food will also sell the ear might medication. I think I have heard of some people using a drop of mineral oil, it also drowns the mights. Whatever you use, you will need to do it several days in a row and then repeat all treatment again two weeks later, after the eggs hatch.

I agree with that one girl. You should call your vet first and ask what you can use as a home remedy for mites in your dog's ear. They can give you advice on the telephone.

I'm pretty sure that tea-tree oil might scare them away, all bugs hate the smell. rubbing alchohal would just clean his ears. if i were you i would go to the vet to get some medication.

hydrogen peroxide. You can pour it directly into their ear, the vet told me this. also dip a qtip into witch hazel and swab, not the inner ear though.

alcohol will just iritate it,you need to use mineral oil {found in the pharmcy} that will drown them, it might take a couple of times to get rid of them all. that is the ear mite mite medicine is based with, it will get the cat some relief pretty quick, but if it is a bad infection you might have to take it to the vet.it does'nt take very much about ten drops a dose twice a day for a couple of days and you should be able to tell the difference if not then i would go to the vet with it. I have done this with my dogs before. good luck!

alcohol is a bit caustic if the ear is already irritated and sore .
