Can someone help me as to what I do now with a troublesome howling dog2007-11-25 3:00:09

This dog howls and yaps as early as 4.30am. This is far too early. I emailed my local envirnonmental health office and as I want to remain anonymous (I'm a single lady), I was told that there's nothing they could do, but that they'd tell the dog owner my problem. Nothing has improved and environmental health said and I quote, "your neighbour can't understand what the problem is". I then sent an angry email to my local MP (again, without revealing my identity) and they emailed back saying, "You have to give us your name and address, as we can't do a thing". Is this right?

Yes..Just because they ask for your name, doesn't mean that they will reveal your identity to the neighbor..It is simply a protocol to keep more frivolous complaints to a minimum..and is nothing the staff can change..It applies to every complaint.

As I worked the night shift for many years, I learned to keep a noise going in my home, such as an aquarium pumping, or a fan running, to reduce my hearing of outside noises..

If the dog is next door to you, you can also post a sonic device on your fence to irritate the dog when it barks.. these are sold online, at Dr.s foster & smith catalog.

Noise sensitivity is an individual thing. What's a problem for you may not be a problem for anyone else. Also, dogs can't tell the time so 4.30 for the dog may seem a natural time to wake up and greet the day.
