Can you get rabies from coming in contact with dead animals
If you pick up/ touch a dead dog that isnt yours and that you dont know any of the shot records of the dog, isnt it important to get rabies shots to prevent the disease?
Im trying to tell my mother that my nephews need to get shots
Answers:Yes,
Rabies is a virus that lives in the animals blood stream. But this is only applicable if the animal cares the virus, I.E. Raccoons, Bats, Rats, Etc .. So basically if you had a cut on your hand and the animal just died and the virus was active then yes you could get rabies, or the plague for example. hope that helps.
Rabies prophylaxsis(vaccination) is REALLY painful for post-exposure (after you have been exposed). You should have the dog's head sent to the Health Department. They can test the brain or spinal tissue to see if the dog was rabies positive. It would really suck for your nephews to get a crap load of painful shots for no reason. They would probably never forgive you.
No, but you can get anthrax. so get those kids checked!
Rabies is transmitted by saliva, so the animal must bite and break the skin in order for your nephews to contract the disease, if the animal in question even has the disease.
yes
YES
If the animal had rabies and dies, you can get it from contact with the body fluids.
One of the few human deaths from rabies in the past few years happened because the person handled a dead bat that turned out to have died from rabies.
