Can you give a dog aspirin2007-11-25 2:59:45

My little Lasa has arthritis. Can I crush up aspirin in her food? Will it hurt her or help her with the pain? Please be honest. I don't want to do anything to make it worse for her.

i have worked in a vet office and a vet hospital..an 80mg aspirin is okay to give your dog!! I am not exactly sure on frequency but i think it is every 4 hours..i would call a vet just to make sure!!

My vet says yes. My Rottweiler/German Shepard weighs 75lbs and she says I can give him 1ASA a day for pain. She says the side effects for him would be the same as for humans, maybe an upset stomach. Depending on the weight of your dog you may want to give your vet a call and see how much she can have in a day.

Yes dogs can take aspirin but how much and how often depends on their size. You need to ask your vet for the correct amount so you don't make your dog sick. The vet has more effective drugs for arthritis much better than aspirin, give him a call.

I don't think you should give it to her until you ask a vet. I believe aspirin can be bad for cats, but I'm not sure about dogs.

Yes, you can but you have to give her half of it if she is very small. It helps. My Terry (german Shepherd) was very ill, she refused to eat and was feeling weak all the time- I gave her an asprin and she was feeling much better after a few hours.
