Can you litter box train a dog first, then train to go outside2007-11-25 2:59:49

I'm getting a a puggle soon and was wondering if I litter box train him now, using either peepads or the litter so he will have a place to go at all times.then train him to go outside most of the time, but just have the litter box as a back up for when I'm not home?

Thats a great idea. Dont see why you couldnt teach him or to use litter box.

You can train a dog to do anything but I would seriously think about your decision to become a dog owner because it is cruel to have a dog locked up in a home all day on its own. They are social animals and need exercise - an absence of these two things will cause you alot of grief when your dog becomes a neurotic mess!

I know you can paper train a dog. I had one that when she got big enough I started taking her out to go potty. She would go both ways when she got older.

Most dogs are first trained on newspapers. For that size of a dog it works. Our dogs first used those then they were trained to go out side and they do both. That way when it is cold or there is a lot of snow they don't have to go outside.

It is possible to litter train a puppy. There are so many advantages to litter training.

Apartment dwellers with no yard can use a litter box, no need to walk a dog when staying in a hotel, or bad weather prevents you and your dog from being outside for too long.
