Can you use human eye drops on a dogs eyes
My pug just started closing one of her eyes. She keeps rubbing her eye on the ground, I looked and do not see anything obvious in her eye.
Answers:Sometimes, but I wouldnt use any without checking with a Vet first, the best eye drops for dogs can be found at a pet store or at the vet. Rubbing her eye can be a sign of an infection or something even worse so TAKE HER TO THE VET. There are a lot of medical conditions that can affect pugs. They are suspectable to these conditions becaue their eyes bulge.
The warm eye drops may provide temporary relief, but the problem will continue if it is an ingrown eyelash or hair.
You have to be careful with pets because the stuff we use on humans may not be good for dogs. Chocholate and sugarless gun that contains Xytol can kill dogs. So you want something that is not filled with a lot of ingredents.
According to: http://www.vetinfo4dogs.com/dogbaby.html.
"If that is the case it is possible that a soothing eye drop like Clear Eyes (tm) might help or an antibiotic/cortisone eye drop your vet can supply may help if milder eye drops do not."
Clear Eyes (tm) has Naphazoline Hydrochloride and Glycerin as the major ingredents. Glycerin is a simple lubercant and safe to apply to humans and dogs. A lot of soaps contain Glycerin.
According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/naphazoline.
Naphazoline can be harmful to nursing cats, but it doesn't say anything about dogs. So the Vetinfo advice I started with sounds like sound advice.
