Good chew toys for hard chewers are: Kongs, Jolly Balls (horse toy available at farm supply stores), Nylabones & Gumabones, and used lawn tractor tires (ask at a lawn mower repair shop). Be sure to get some good sized (not small enough to swallow) thicker rubber balls for games of fetch - this is most retriever breed's favorite game!

The KONG is a great toy for teething puppies. You can also stuff these with treats or kibble. These also work well stuffing them with yogurt and freezing them :)

kong toys are almost indestructable. Also velvabones and compressed rawhides. These seem to take the longest for my large chewer to get through. Also make sure you watch him when he has rawhides so he doesn't try swollowing to much. The other thing is to monitor how much you give him so much he ends up w/ a bowel obstructions

I've had labs most of my life, and i find that it doesn't really make a difference what kind of chewy you get, as long as it lasts for more than a day or so. I usually got the basted ones that had some flavor, but i've also given them the regular unflavored ones; they didn't seem to mind or notice the difference. Puppies will generally chew on anything you give them! haha
