Chihuahua question
I have an eight year old male chihuahua - not the small version, he weighs about 17 lbs. About two weeks ago he jumped off the foot rest on the recliner. He was walking over to his water dish and all four legs gave out. He cannot stand or walk. He has been checked out by our vet and can find nothing wrong. perfectly healthy, except now he cannot walk. He told us not to give up on him yet, that maybe in time he will be able to use his legs again. If not, then he probably has permanent nerve damage. Has anyone ever heard of this happening?
Answers:A Chihuahua's bones are very tiny and can break very easy.If your pet can't walk,I would suggest seeking advice from another vet and maybe request xrays be taken.

No, that's odd. I have a chi also but she is not even a year old. I hope yours will get better. If not, take comfort that she lived a long 17 years and seem to have been a very happy one too.
yes, small dogs often have back problems and/or leg injuries from jumping..landing just a little wrong can create huge problems. I'm guessing that the vet gave him something for internal swelling and pain. give the meds .try to carry and avoid jumping. it's a wait and see. if your dog is overweight that will work against him.
No, I haven't heard of that happening. I hope he recovers! I used to have a little 4 lb. Chihuahua, so I'm kinda partial to them.
Give him a chance, don't give up on him too quick!!
