Boxers are very energetic till they reach 3-5 years of age. They like to play games from fetch to tug of war to release their fun-loving energy. They have puppyish behavior & a zest for life their whole life - they are known as the comedians of the canine world. They are one of the top breeds reccomended for kids and are wonderful playmates & companions. They are probably one of the most people oriented breeds around & will stick their nose in everything you do. This is why you almost never have to worry about them running off - they stick close to your side as if they are afraid they may miss something interesting! They have minimal grooming requirements because of their short coat - brush once or twice a week with a rubber curry comb & a monthly bath keep them looking fine. They are a common sense dog in their protective instincts - not gung-ho like a German Shepherd or Rottweiler (I have owned both), but they will protect if the need arises: in other words, friends & friendly strangers can come on your property, but suspicious-acting people would be watched & dealt with if needed. They need obedience training & a firm, consistent hand in the household rules - if you let them do something wrong, they will take advantage & become a nusiance quickly. They are loving & big snugglers (especially when it is cold) - they think they are big lapdogs. If this sounds like the personality match for you, go for it. Go to www.akc.org & buy a pup from a breeder that is also a member of the American Boxer Club for the healthiest, most well adjusted pet from the start & the support of a reputable breeder for life. Good luck!

boxer is a very intelligent and loving breed , but has many health problems , if ur into large breeds why not try rottwielers ? they are very obedient and attentive dogs , also loving and can be trained easily if you be patient .
Boxers are pretty good dogs on the whole but ARE prone to cancers and hip dysplasia
get a mutt
do alot of research before you buy a breed.. Boxers are high strung and will need alot of exercise. check out the breeder too. Meet the mom and dad dog if possible. This will tell you there temperment and how your dog may turn out..
Do lots, lots, and lots of reasearch. Think about what kind of group you want your dog to be in (sporting, herding, etc.). Think if you want a compainon dog or an agility. I would also advise you to find a breeder in your area and ask about the dog breed. Dont buy from a pet store. Do buy from an experienced breeder or look at pets in your local shelter.
