Crate - Plastic or Wire
I have two dogs that I crate trained (medium sized)-and used the wire medium crates on them (I don't use them anymore). Now we will be getting a miniature breed (miniature schnauzer/yorkie) and I am contemplating getting a plastic type crate (because it seems to provde more of a 'den' atmosphere for training). I've used the wire crate before because I thought they were airier and could see out better from. But some say that the plastic types provide more of a secure feeling?
Answers:I have had had used both types for crate training, but I have to say that I prefer the wire because it provides more ventilation . Instead of going though the expense of a new crate, I would try covering the crate with a small sheet. I think that would still be airier than the plastic, while making it more den-like. If you like, you can cover all or only a portion.
Are you referring to what they call pet taxis? My dogs love them. Just make sure you do not get one with plastic doors as ours chewed the doors up.
I would stick with what I had used before. Some dogs don't like totally enclosed and enjoy being able to see their surrounding area. But the choice is yours.
Plastic is best.. but with metal door.
Make sure it has room so your dog can move around and also get away from any accident it may have. SO if your dog poops in the crate.. he wont have to lie in it.
