Crate Training
I have a 19 month old male Chihuahua and am in the process of adopting a 5 month old female Chi. The female is crate trained and on dry food why my overally spoiled male is not crate trained and very finiky. Is there any way to crate train him also and how can I stablize his food. He eats wet food but I'd prefer he go back to dry. Any help?

As far as the food thing, I believe in free feeding and every dog that I have had has adjusted to it quickly. You tend to have less overweight dogs with free feeding as they only eat when they are hungry. They don't tend to "wolf" down the food because they have the security of knowing it is always there.
Get him a crate. Put in his favorite bed. Put him in it. Sit there next to him for a bit and see how he does. Let him out. If he throws a fit, talk to him and insist he quiet down.
Leave the door open and put his dinner in there - in the back so he has to go in. Bring him t the crate, let him see you put the food in and tell him "Crate."
Practice having him stay in there with a toy or bone.
Do this for 5-7 days and he is crate trained.
99% of dogs LOVE their crates. It is their den. Mine and I have a deal - if they do something really terible, if they can make it to their crate before I get my hands on them, they are safe.
