Crate training ineffective for Jack Russell puppy Suggestions
She's about 18 weeks old and incapable of holding her urine for more than four or five hours. And she goes #2 sporadically and on no predictable schedule. Hence, she'll go in her crate sometimes within an hour of just having gone outside. I don't see any way to break her of this "go when I need to IN the crate" routine. Even if I have a day off and watch her like a hawk, she's prone to just going number 2 when she feels like going and by the time I get her outside, she's already "gone" and being outside seems like an excercise in futility. And her mealtime is as regular as can be, so that's not helping either. :(
Answers:Yuo can't expect a puppy to hold it for that long! Or have a "predictable" schedule. Crate training is not the solution to housebreaking. It is not going to stop your dog from answering nature's call. And do you go to the bathroom immediately after you eat? Doubtful. So don't expect an animal too either. A guy I know said that he housebroke his dog, by taking the dog outside every 15 minutes when he was home. Literally. Housebreaking is hard work - harder with some dogs than others. Good luck!
i think crate training any animal is a horrible thing how would you feel if someone locked you in a cage i would * and pee all over the place
Please don't be offended, but I don't think you can teach Jack Russells anything they don't want to learn. My son and his girlriend had one. Luckily, she got custody of it when they broke up. That was the most frustrating dog I've ever been around in my life! Good luck to you!
How much does she weigh and what brand of food are your feeding her? The grocery store brands are full of fillers and will cause your dog to poop more. As for the housetraining, and crate training, how does she respond in the crate? Is the only problem that she poos in it? The housetraining, is a bit of a mystery to me right now. It sounds like you feel she is pooping way too much, which could indicate that she is being fed too much, which will make housebreaking more difficult. If you can answer those questions we can probably provide a little more help.
I really don't know what to tell you. But good luck.
ok first maybe you need a smaller crate it should only be big enough for her to lye down in it , and second if she can hold her pee for 4-5 hours thats great, my puppy is 6 months old and she can sometimes only go for 2 so yours has the hang of it.
