Cushings Disease2007-11-25 3:00:30

Has anyones dog ever had cushings disease? My 11 year old yorkie may have it. Whats it like and how has your dog reacted to treatment?

Answers:

Our dog was diagnosed with Cushings about 4 years ago. When we were told we thought it was the end of the world. You hear tumour and think death. However, he started taking Vetoryl capsules once a day and has never looked back. The vet told us that the Vetoryl is like the elixir of life, the dog literally came back to life overnight. He had been quite sluggish and lethargic beforehand but soon got better. He has had quite a few problems since because he also has diabetes and has insulin injections and the two drugs react so it has been quite a bit of trial and error in getting his medication right but he keeps bouncing back. He is 14 now and still plodding on. He is not in any pain and is a happy little dog, in fact he went for a check up last week and the vet says that not many 14 year old dogs are in such good shape who don't have his problems. His cushings medication has recently been decreased aswell. Don't think that your dogs time is up, keep a close eye on him to check for reactions with medication and take him straight back to the vet if you notice any change in behaviour. With a good vet and vigilant owners, there is no need to have a dog put to sleep because of Cushings. Good luck, I will be thinking about you and your dog.

my spaniel might have it. she got put on some pills and we were told to limit her protein intake and she's been fine since. and thats been about 3 years now.
Yes, I've heard of Cushings Disease, my aunt's dog had it as well as patients in our clinic.
