Cyst: What is it and what will it look like on a dogs paw how to treat it/ heal it
A cyst is a large blister. Fluid gathers under a thin layer of skin. Not to be mistaken for an abcess. An abcess will be covered by a thick layer of skin and the fluid will be puss, thick and milky looking (if it breaks, you shouldn't be able to see the fluid at all), not clear and watery (you may be able to see through the skin of a cyst).
The thing is, you need to find out why the dog got a cyst. Which needs a vet visit. Sometimes it's an injury, sometimes it's a disease, but you need to find out for sure, for the best treatment. See a vet as soon as you can. It's probably not an emergency, but you need an appointment soon.
Good luck

My vet just diagnosed the lump under my dog's jaw as a sialocele - what is that, exactly?
A salivary gland cyst is also known as a sialocele or salivary mucocele. There are four salivary glands in the dog and cat. The most commonly affected glands are the large ones under the jaw, the mandibular salivary glands. The sublingual (under the tongue) can also be affected.
A sialocele is a cyst filled with a collection of mucoid saliva in the tissues surrounding a salivary gland. These cysts can become quite large, sometimes inducing a cough (from pressing on the larynx or trachea).
