Dachshund racing or dog racing in general2007-11-25 3:00:31

I just wanted to know opinions about what the world thinks of dog racing. I entered my dachshund in a race last year and we thought it was fun but I've also heard some negative things about it.

you are another victim of extremist thinking. The greyhound rescue movement stated because it was a shame that most greyhound were put down at the end of their racing career because homes for them were so hard to find - it's a shame the SPCA does the same for the same reason but that was not the purview of the Grey rescuers. So since the Grey's must be rescued the greyhound industry got the black hats & people begain to accuse them of all maner of abuse - even if its simply impossible (they have been accuse of killing more dogs a year thatn are BORN for example) and so few people know enought to know the accusations have no merit. So since greyhound racing has the black hat you got one for the dirty word "racing". Claerly you beat the dog to make him run , starved him to make him faster, neglected & abused him in every way. NO? - I didn't think so. He probably had a ball running to you for a cookie & went home to sleep on the bottom of the bed. The geys like to race & they don't sleep on the bottom of the bed but they have confortable bedding. A lot of AR stuff is that wrong..

i'd like to watch that breed race. it'd be like watching midgets run track. Not saying it would not be a valid event, but rather unusual.

I think dachshund racing is a great hobby to do with your dog if you both enjoy it. I have only heard of racing for fun, not profit.

Greyhound racing is a different story. Most dogs dont live a normal life and are put down if they are not profitable. Most are abandoned when they are retired.

Two totally different types of racing.
