Dams milk drying up early help
is there any way I can encourage the mom to produce more milk? The puppy (only 1 in the liter) isn't even quite 2 weeks old yet and goes from teet to teet trying to get all he can. Also he is NOT taking to the bottle for supplement feeding. What can I do, please help with SERIOUS answers only.
Answers:Are you absolutely sure he isn't getting enough to eat? Sometimes puppies will just go from nipple to nipple, especially only pups.
If the pup seems skinny, or lethargic, then worry. If he's fat and happy, just leave him alone, he's probably gonna be fine.
If he is skinny, call the vet. There are medicines that can help. They can also show you how to give the pup a bottle. Sometimes, it's not always as straight forward as it might seem.
You need to talk to a vet. I think there are medications that can be given to encourage the lactation.
Take her to the vet. The vet can give her a shot to increase milk production and also check her to make sure she is OK after having the pup.
Make sure you are feeding her well and giving her plenty to drink.
You must use a special milk for feeding pups when the mother dries up. contact the vet for this special type of milk. I have heard of breeders using goats milk for feeding puppies.
