Diarrhea/Vomiting in Puppy

Diarrhea/Vomiting in Puppy2007-11-25 3:00:33

I have an almost-16 week old Golden Retriever. He is acting absolutely normal. He is wrestling with our other dog, running around like crazy when he goes outside, eating and drinking normal. Yesterday morning his stool was normal too, but it gradually got worse until last night, when we took him out at 10:00, he was literally just spewing brown water. I've had to wake up several times during the night to take him out. He vomited twice last night, around 2:00 and 3:00 am. The vet doesn't open for another hour and I'm worried sick. He's had all but his very last Parvo shot and I really don't think that could be it. My husband said that he and my other dog got a little bit into the trash yesterday. It obviously wasn't a lot because I didn't even notice, but it's possible he may have eaten something (though I'm completely stumped as to what it might have been).

I'm terrified and I can't sleep. Anyone had a similar experience and can help me?

Thanks!

Answers:

if your animal is not used to eating anything but dog food or dog related food, then it will tear his stomach up. my dog does it from time to time when i leave a bag of trash out. so does my cat. he should be fine, has anyone in the house been sick with the flu or the stomach virus? that may be it as well. dogs can get that too, mine did every year when i got it. i would not be too alarmed but i would have it checked out. if it were parvo he would be weak and not eating or drinking. so you can rule that one out..good luck with the pup, and if you don't mind let me know how it goes, i love animals, especially puppies!! holly

Take him to the vet ASAP and get him tested for Parvo. If caught early, its treatable.
it could just be the garbage he ate, my rotty gets the runs if we just change dog food, she has a very sensitive stomach, but i would still take him to vet ASAP..
Eek. You are right to be worried. You should be at the door of the vet's office as soon as they open. This could be one of many things but it is very serious. I'm so sorry that I can't be more reassuring, but I do hope that your vet can sort it out.
i would take him to the vet this morning. they might ask you to bring in a sample so they can look under the microscope for an answer. i can't remember what its called but i know there is something that can cause this and its easily treatable with medication. nothing serious. but just to make sure i would call the vet first thing and get him seen. hope he's OK
If they got into the trash it could be food poisoning. It doesn't take much in a human, so it probably wouldn't take much in a puppy. It really does not sound like Parvo. I would just relax. And make him as comfortable as you can until the vet opens.

Sorry I don't know what else to say.

I hope he gets well.

it may have been somthing it ate, but get your dog to the vet as soon as it opens.
i guess your dog swallowed cellophane in the trash.!! just give him water with a little salt in it..and continue feeding.
