Diff b/w pit bull & am bulldog2007-11-25 3:00:34

How can i tell the difference b/w a pit bull and an am. bull dog? I have one and the people i got her from say she is a am. bull dog, but i've talk to some people and they say she looks like pitt, and others saw she looks like am. bull dog??!!

I think its more in the blood lines.I have a pit bull [so I am told] but her head is a little small so at certain angles she looks more am. bull dog.

My vet told me exactly what she was.plus I went into petco and looked at all their books till I found one that was exactly like mine and yep she's a pit brindle.., the other one that I am surprised you did not add into the mix is Stafford shire Bull Terrier..

NOTE to Chrsytell..same thing as with mine if I say she is a MIX then its ok for the housing assoc..I could not tell you if she is mixed or not we found her..but the vet said if asked say she is a pit boxer mix..silly rules dont ya think

ACTUALLY Vance : I dont care WHAT she is as I found her and kept her RATHER than have her put down at the HUMANE soceity.due to her breed..she was sooooooo bloody well taken care of BEFORE we got her that it cost roughly $1000.00 to sort out her heart worm and get all the other stuff on her put right.you spiteful snide comments are really not needed to be honest..I doubt very much this dog will go any place as he is with me night and day BUT just in case of hurricanes or the such I have also had her chipped.

an am. bull dog is smaller than a pit bull. it also looks like the am. bull dog has ringcals(sp).

some ppl do think they look a lot alike but not really, generally pitbulls are a little bit shorter and stockier than a am. bulldog. bulldogs tend to have a more smushed in face, not so much am. bulldogs but they still ahve the thicker jowls, and bigger face. pitbulls also tend to have a more square boxed face, and again are a little bit shorter.

A vet may be able to tell the difference, but honestly, I'm not sure. I have a Pit Bull, but my landlord doesn't allow me to have that breed, so I went to a pet store and got a breed book, and found that she looks exactly like an American bulldog, so I told my landlord that that's what she is. you really can't tell, except she has a red nose (she's a red-nosed Pit). You might want to get a breed book, and see if there are any differences between how big they get or their general body structure. Good Luck
