Do Australian Cattle dogs get along with catsever2007-11-25 3:00:36Answers:

I think if they were raised with the cat from a puppy and taught not to hurt it, there wouldn't be a problem.

Other wise they could be a breed that just doens't get along with them

Yes, they can be totally fine with cats. All depends on the particular dog and how you introduce them to cats
They will try to boss the cat around.
my australian cattle dog is fine around cats (she lives with 3 of them). you just have to socialize them early. acd's are a very jealous and protective breed.
Australian Cattle dogs are a herding breed. They will try to herd cats, children, and anything else they come across. Cats don't like to be herded. Apart from some serious obedience training for your dog, you may have a problem on your hands for a while.

I have a Lab/Collie mix for a grand dog. We dog sit her every day while my daughter and hubby work. She tries to herd the cats out of the kitchen when I start cooking and she tries to chase the cats upstairs if I get out the vacuum. She is trying to herd them away from danger. She's had her nose scratched a few times.

don't chalk it up to a breed thing except that they were bred to herd. my german shpherd wanted to kill my siamese when we got the dog, but now they do well together. i made the cat apppear more dominant thatn the dog and now they do well together as long as gunner doesn't want to sniff pj's rear too much~! it takes a lot of training and hard work, but can happen. find an obedience instructor or dog behaviorist in your area to help you. don't go it alone unless you're willing to get caught up in a fight.
Some times. I have a young male who loves to play with our cat.
i guess unless the cats look like cows.
of course some do, it all depends on the disposition of the cat and the dog because every one is different
Any dog, with proper socialization and training, can get along with a cat.

The reason some dogs are not good with cats is because they weren't properly socialized and/or trained at a young age. This is not breed-specific. There are a number of breeds that have very high prey drives (border collies being a big culprit) that don't do so well with cats in general, but I've seen plenty that were fine with cats.
