Also, you will need to be very careful and obtain one from a responsible breeder - some poorly bred lines are too aggressive.

I am a devoted Doberman lover and owner.I have had a total of 9 dobies in the past 28 years.Two of my dobies also had a litter.I would get a pup that you could teach to be around children. Some adult dobies that haven't been around little children get nervous around them.If you're looking to get an older dobe check with the owners or rescue groups to see if that particular dobe does good with children. Right now I have three dobies and four grandchildren, ages 3,4,5,8 and my dogs are fine when they are around. The dogs are inside house pets. They are very loving ,devoted,intellegent and protective. We grew up with Dobies and I was a small child when I got my first, I think they are great family dogs, they are active, love to play, protective, etc. Never knew one that was mean in a family situation. Hope I helped.

Just like any dog, if you go to a good breeder, that is very RESPONSIBLE and you have done your homework on this breeder, then YES they make great home pets.
