Younger dogs are a worry, if left alone they will occupy themselves with some activity, and this could result in destructive behaviour.
i do not think they have a concept of times but dogs do not like to be left alone whih can sometimes cause them to destroy furniture but this is usuallyseen in puppies maybe if you oculd try to come back at lunch times then it will ease your mindand assure your dog he hanst been left

Their concept of time is not as we know it.
Their anticipation of your arrival at the end of the day is not as disturbing to them as the separation. Most dogs do damage or display their anxiety only for the first while after you leave.
They just act like its been forever since they saw you last.
My dog has real problems with the digital watch we gave him for Christmas, but he's OK with the one we gave him for his Birthday because it has fingers. Although we did go for a battery type and not a wind up as his paws are too big to keep in wound. Hope this helps :-0
Yes, my dogs know just when it is walking time, bed time, and what time I or my spouse should be home..Dogs love daily routine, and get upset when the timing isn't just right..
My dog Ben knows exactly when I should be going upstairs to get changed to take him for a walk..whereas my other dog Millie has not idea! Ben will also go to the front door five minutes prior to my husband pulling up outside in the car.this is far more random as my husband can go out for anything from 5 minutes to 5 hours..again, Millie doesn't seem to notice.I think some dogs are more tuned in to times and routines and the anxiety of separation than others.
YES_ I believe all creatures who are domesticated have a sense of time- Although I love the watch comment I think that animals time is different then ours- but routine and time of day is a fact for them so yes-!
