Do English Mastiffs get along with small dogs and cats
(I own a Shiit-Zu, Pomeranian, and a cat, and I'm looking to buy an English Mastiff. If they're compatible of course).!
Answers:I know of a mastiff that gets along with his fellow cat. but i wouldnt leave a small dog and the mastiff alone together for extened periods of time. Some small dogs are instigators and then they get a beating.
If you are getting a puppy, then everything will be fine. Just make sure you start obedience training your mastiff early. A large dog like this needs to be taught discipline and manners to turn into a nice adult. You are going to have to supervise the pup constantly, until you feel it is old enough and polite enough to be trusted alone with the cat and the other dog. If you are inexperienced with dog training, join a puppy kindergarden group or get dog training videos to help you out.

Mastiffs are a guarding breed.
If introduced to the others as a puppy, they will guard and prtoect whatever they are raised with - people, animals whatever.
If you are thinking about an adult Mastiff, go through the Mastiff breed club. They can help find one that does well with small dags and cats. Typically it would be a breeder rehome where the people who got it as a puppy can not keep it any longer and have returned it to the breeder (as any responsible breeder requires of their puppy buyers.)

The fact that they are larger is not the critical factor. My two cats smack my 115 lb Kuvasz around with impunity (he is their favorite toy and they make him groom them) and he adores them and would die to protect them.
Yes! I have an English mastiff and i own a min pin and a cocker spainiel and he just loves little dogs and he loves cats too! He gets along with almost anyone and anything unless he senses that your threatened. I love that breed! Just make sure you get one as a puppy. i hope dihelped ya :-)
