Do I give my 13 pds 12 yrs old Chihuahua an Aspirin or Tylenol2007-11-25 3:00:40

My "Bubba" has bad hips and runs fever at night. I do all I can to help him get around. I bought those doggie steps to help him get on and off the bed. I was told to give him Aspirin (baby) which brings me to my next ?. How do I give him one with-out him knowing? Do I give him a whole one or do I break one in half? I know in my heart that my Bubba is at the end of his sweet life and it is killing me. I am a disabled woman. We live in an assisted living place and we only have each other. I do not want my little guy to hurt and I do not want to fight with him to take a pill. Why stress us out. Any ideas?

DO NOT GIVE TYLENOL! It is poisonous to dogs! Their liver can't process it. Give him children's aspirin, you can grind it and mix with applesauce, yogurt, or something similar or put in a piece of cheese, hot dog, whatever he likes. You can also check out www.doggonepain.com and buy some DGP (also sold at PetSmart, but it's about $29) maybe he isn't at the end of his sweet life, just in a lot of pain that may be remedied with the right medication. DGP is designed for dogs that are in his situation, dogs with joint pain. Please don't just assume his time is up. I know you don't want him to suffer, but I have read about some really miraculous results with this product at www.whole-dog-journal.com, and I think it may be the solution you need. 12 isn't really that old for a small dog. Aspirin won't cure, just allleviate pain. Please at least check out the DGP website before you just give up on him. I know how you feel, he's given you so many wonderful and selfless years, you just want to give him all the comfort you can. I hope this helps.
