Do dogs have a concept of time2007-11-25 3:01:06

Are they able to tell how much time has gone by?

Answers:

Yes they do have a concept of time . Ever drive down a rural road at about 3:30 and seen a bunch of dogs at the end of the driveway waiting for thier kid to come home?

My dog knows when I should come home when my wife should leave etc etc. By the way horses if you feed them at the same time every day and bring them in/out at the same time will develop a sense of time. Cows not so much

How they know the things they know and how much do they know anyway is all beyond me I think they are more like us than we want to admit

Probably but only till their nxt dinner time :P - lol.
i doubt it,ive never seen a dog look at his watch. lol
Dog's sense of time:

It has been hypothesized that dog's notion of time (and its elapse) is not so much chronological as it is based on a biological rhythm that is linked to their terrific skills of memory association. We humans are often amazed at the ability our dogs have to anticipate the daily arrival of their masters from work or the kids from school. And how is it that they know what hour to wake up every morning summer or winter? How is it that dogs can tell the time? Dogs have been known to show up at a train station everyday at the same hour to receive their returning masters and everyone who has a dog knows that when meal times role around their dog shows up no matter where it was or what it was doing. Do you ever watch the Dog Whisperer on National Geographic Channel? According to him, they don't, at least when it comes from past incidents. He says dogs live in the moment, not the past and not the future. But I believe a dog, just like my two crazy cats, get a sense of what time it is for them to eat, for example, or at least when they want to be fed, my cats, my cats, are driving me up the wall! Anyway, when an animal sees you take a certain action, usually something you do in a routine, they remember that and act accordingly, like when my cats see me waking up, they think its time for breakfast, and if I don't feed them right away, they tear around the house being a nuisance.
my lab has never failed to start licking my toes at 6 am since i let him sleep inside my room.
