Do dogs pee while they sleep2007-11-25 3:01:09

We have an Australian Shepeard who is 9 months old and we notice there was pee on the couch. When we took him to the spot and questioned him, he seemed unaware. (Usually if he knows he did something wrong he lays his ears back. He is also housetrained and asks to go outside if he needs to use the bathroom.) We scolded him but later found in weird how he didn't seem to know what was going on. DO dogs usually pee while they sleep (NOT in their confined area?)

just like babies do so do puppies you just have to train them to wake up and use the restroom outside.have a blanket down sometimes dogs can't help it when they get scared in a dream they go pee.

hes still a pup maybe he was dreaming.some pups can pee when they greet you or when theyre afraid maybe thats what his dream was about

Some dogs will for a while. It's a puppy so it might just have an accident. If it continues then you might want to have him checked at the vet. Bladder problems could be causing the problem.

I know that spayed females will sometimes have urinary incontinence (leaking urine). I haven't heard of this problem in males, though.

I would suggest that if the pup were laying asleep on the couch and urine leaked out you take him to the vet. He may have a bladder infection causing this problem.

Maybe it was the way that you questioned him. Were you clear in what you were saying, or could he have misunderstood some of the words you used and become confused as to what exactly you were asking him?

Dogs don't normally pee while they sleep, but he's still a puppy and maybe had an accident. If it happens very often, have him checked by a vet for a Urinary tract infection.

LOL! My chihuahua wets herself when she is asleep sometimes. Once they get older they will learn to hold it while they are asleep.

No dogs do not pee when asleep! Your dog was probably having a wet dream about Fifi the poodle who lives next door! What u thought was pee..wasn't!

no they do not, but they do mark territories and then act like they forgot,,,,he's young yet.positive reinforcement is the only way to train a dog

i don't know but let me know if there is a cure because i am often peeing the bed and it's wet wet wet.

I'm not sure about your dog and I'm no vet but I used to have a dog that had gland issues. Dogs have glands in butts I think? Like I said I'm not Vet but when she have a bath or something that involved her getting wet, the gland would leak leaving a puddle normally were she was sleeping I can say one thing when she got older and she did eventually lose control of her bladder when she did pee in her sleep she was covered in pee.

Usually not. A very young puppy may, and an older dog may, but at 9 months it's not exactly normal. He may have simply been very very deeply asleep.
