Well, according to the USDA and Dept. of Ag. neither exist. There are only commercial breeders, and show/hobby breeders. Period. There are good and bad in both. Many show/hobby breeders are FAMILY breeders. They often have only a couple dogs, raised in their home. These are the most desirable breeders to purchase a dog from. But, like I said there are good and bad breeders in every aspect. Period.

How to best explain.? puppy mills exist to make money, no other reason & often their puppies have health problems and/or are mistreated before you get them. Backyard breeders are non professional breeders who could be good or bad. If they check you out to make sure you'll be a good owner for the puppy, they're probably the best to go with because it shows they actually care about the dogs.

These bitches are forced to have puppies at every season, then being thrown out when they get too old to have any more. The dogs are not socialised or exercised, and usually have no veterinary treatment.
