Do you prefer tiny apple dome chihuahuas or more dog-like deer head chihuahuas
I love the looks of the deer-head chihuahuas. Some people here commented that they are more problematic than the apple dome ones, but that's not true in my experience. I've known dozens of chihuahuas and the most calm, well-mannered, and friendly ones were deer heads. I lived with a deer head one for 14 years and my great-aunts had a long-haired deer head one who was the sweetest little angel and in all of the nearly 13 years I knew her personally, she was so wonderful! She loved to play and never ever showed aggression or nervousness. The third deer head I know is a chihuahua mix who lives with us now. He's a little bossy but is definitely not high strung or aggressive.
Whether it's "proper" or not to breed the deer head ones, I can only say wonderful things about them - not to mention I prefer their looks hands down! Of course, I'm sure there are some perfectly good apple head chihuahuas they just can't compare in my opinion!
I'd like to add that the two I've owned were rescues and the other was a gift from a friend to my great-aunts. They were all spayed and neutered and so they aren't being bred from. Proper or not, I still love them! :)

Apple dome is correct, together with fontanelle as per the KC and AKC. Anything else is classed as incorrect and should not be bred from.
Apple dome with a definite stop, short nose. Large dark eyes with flaring ears at ten to two. Straight back with flat tail carried over the back.
Get a sponge brained Beagle instead, they are lovely! :o)
I thought a chihuahua was a rat! If you're going to get a dog then get an alsatian or a labrador or a smaller dog like a staffordshire!

My preference is a 5 pound Apple Dome..They also seem to be the most stable little guys, and are not as nervous, yappy or shaky as the deer Chihuahuas.
I used to breed correct, easily trainable, easy to live with Chihuahuas.
NOT being an IGNORANT "pet-person".I prefer the CORRECT head,as described in the BREED STANDARD,NOT what's the "current fad" amongst the morons.
