Does anybody have a dog thats half wolf2007-11-25 2:27:59

Not that i want it now but i want to know how many people have them.

I had one that was half german shepherd and half timberwolf.

You are all right, who said these dogs are high maintenance and dangerous.

They are supremely protective and territorial but, very alpha with other animals and if you live on a ranch or large piece of land, as I did, they can be the most wonderful dogs and are also extremely smart so their minds need to be challenged and exercized or they will get into trouble.

When you have a hybrid that is half wild you must make accommodations for the animal and cater to them, exactly the opposite of how one would deal with and treat domestic pets.

i run a pet store and about 5 people in my 3 years at this store have told me they had one, and the problem is they always crave meat.. and they do not prefer dog food

Don't do it. They can be very unpredicatable and can be dangerous because the wolf part tends to be anti-social, fearful and skittish. They have special needs - they are not just another kind of dog. Most shelters and humane societies will not accept them if you have to relinquish them so they are euthanized.
