Dog just had surgery - have a question2007-11-25 3:00:59

Last week I posted about having problems with vet bills for my dog. Thanks to all who answered with such great info and compassion. Now she's home, and has a pin in her back leg. Anyone with experience with this - what am I in for? Also, she is housebroken, and now can't go outside, and is having problems using a puppy pad? It's like she knows she isn't supposed to go in the house, but her bandages cannot get wet and it has been raining here quite a bit. Any suggestions?

I don't know what the size of your dog is. Our dog (a Pomeranian) had to have hip surgery, and had her leg bandaged which of course couldn't get wet. When I took her outside, I looped a leash around her middle and held her up like a makeshift sling. This way she was still able to go outside and do her business. I slipped a plastic grocery bag over the bandaged leg just until she came indoors. This worked out, but boy was I glad when the bandage could finally come off (and so was she).

a kitty litter box. Put poo in it (theirs) and soon they will use it. Dont let them go upstairs or downstairs. And mostlikely have arthriris sooner.

Sorry your dog was hurt. I had a chihuahua with a pin in her back leg due to surgery for luxating patells(slipping kneecaps). She got around just fine. Your dog will only be able to hold her pee and poop so long, and then she will go on the pads. You need to confine her somewhow where she will not try to jump. Hope she heals up quickly.

Do you have a garage, if you do put her out their or you could try good old fashion newspaper instead of the puppy pads something about shredded newspaper on a kitchen floor will attract the response you are looking for
