Flea and Tick Control-non-toxic &natural or Pesticides for dog2007-11-25 3:01:01

I have a 12 week old St.Bernard puppy and am looking into different flea and tick brands for the spot on treatments such as frontline plus, bio etc and am amazed at all the toxic chemicals they use. Has anyone had any luck using herbal or non toxic treatments? If so what has worked? And of the top brands for flea control which do you recommend?

Answers:

Garlic and brewer's yeast in a powder form works REALLY well. When my kennel was overrun with fleas one year I decided to go another route and tried the natural way. I swear by it now. It's WAY cheaper and every bit as effective as exposing your dog to loads of toxic chemicals. Vet's won't tell you about it b/c they don't make any money off of selling something that you can buy at a decent nutrition center or good pet store.

Many people feed garlic to their animals for flea control. Others have fennel growing around where the dog sleeps. And then there are the people who put gumnuts, threaded on a leather thong, around the dog's neck.

I use frontline plus and DE (DE for eternal parasites).. But revolution is supposed to do all of that. If I could afford it I would use revolution hands down! but I have 13 dogs!

Trust me you will have no problem using ADVANTAGE.It's safe easy and practical. With no messing around.AND IT WORKS.
Bathe him using an OTC flea and tick soap and then get the drops that you place behind the nape of his/her neck from your local veterinarian. There are several names you can choose from, but since you didn't state the country/region you live in, best to ask the vet.he has favorites that he uses on a regular basis that WILL work. Collars are usually toxic and of limited reliability, as they wear out from being wet, cause irritation and are nasty to handle.
Frontline Plus is actually the best stuff out there for fleas. It does NOT go into the nervous system of animals. It travels along the skin and hair cells in the skin and basically hyper excites fleas to death, it attacks their nervous system.

The stuff you get out there at the grocery stores etc. DO go into the nervous system and can actually kill dogs and cats. I have seen several cats die from the Hartz flea stuff.
