My dog is whining and following me around the house whats the deal

I am from arizona so in the winter my doggy is an outside dog and in the summer we let her inside except to eat (shes a messy girl) and obviously go to the rest room. we take her outside to swim with us and give her all the attention a 5 year old yellow lab needs.. but she has been following me around the house.. outside of her usual boundaries that she is FULLY aware of.. whining like no other! I know she is not in heat and I really have no idea what her deal is? any ideas?

A few things come to mind:

1) Your dog may be bored and need to be taken for a 45 minute walk at least once per day.

2) Labs are retrieivers, so interactive toss and fetch games with her would be a great thing for you or other family members to play.

3) No matter how much attention you believe you may be giving her, she is obviously in some state of anxiety. When she swims in the pool, are you playing with her, or just allowing her to splash around in the pool with the rest of the family (there is a difference)?

4) Have there been any new members of the family - babies, young children visiting, or others coming into your home with whom you are having extended interactions? Is she feeling left out or has the traditional routine in your home changed in some way?

5) If you are satisfied that you and your family are doing everything you can to placate her and there is still no change in her behavior, by all means take her to the vet and have a physical exam conducted on your dog. She may be in discomfort or pain and the whining may be the only way she can "tell" you that something is very wrong.
