My dog isnt going through heat2007-11-25 2:11:44

i have a chihuahua/min pinscher. she's about 9 months now and still hasn't gone through heat. the vet had told us about 3 months ago that she might just be late, but she should have had it by now. she hasn't been showing any sign of her going through heat. she has been trying to "get frisky". she isn't spayed so that can't be it. please help if you can. thank you...

Dogs start going into heat between 6 months and a year old. I have a dog who did not go into heat until she was 14 months. It depends on the dog. Just be patient, it will happen.

Great-spay her! the LAST thing this country needs is another litter of mutts in a kill shelter. Thousands of them already die everyday, you know.

Spay your dog, don't worry about her heat. They're messy, and a pain to deal with, for any responsible owner...

just hang in there it will happen :) signs of being frisky is a good start. she may just be starting to come into season so just keep an eye on her and her behaviour. It can take up to a year for this to happen but remember if your going to get her spayed letting her go into heat doesn't have any positive effects. If your planning on getting her spayed book her in now before she comes into season. if in doubt talk to your vet or nurse they will be happy to help.

i wouldnt worry,, some dogs start at 6 months some up to a year and a half, then some dogs have heats twice yearly, some have 1 a year, some every 18 mths, they are all different, so it is normal.
