i just gave my papillon a bath and i think i may have gotten a little water in his ears. he keeps shaking his head and rubbing his ears on the ground like he's trying to get something out. first off, what happens if there is water in there? and secondly, how do i get it out? thanks!

yes you could try the things the other 3 answers said..but what if you do something wrong..you could damage the dogs hearing...
Water in the ear can lead to an ear infection. You can use cotton balls to try to swab out his ears and dry up some of the water. If this doesn't work, get some ear cleaning solution at the pet store and follow the directions on the bottle.

Well water in the ears can cause ear infections. The best thing to do is stuff cotton balls in the ears before bathing. You can use a q-tip but don't go deeper than the cotton end. If he gets an infection you will see him rubbing his ear with his paw and a smell will be present sometimes along with some discharge. If doesn't happen all the time I would say you are safe. Also another good thing to do when bathing is go get some mineral oil from the drug store and put a drop in the eyes it helps protect them if they get soap in the eyes.
Don't worry about, he will be fine- its just like getting water in your ears. I'm a groomer and dogs will jolt while washing their heads & water accidently gets in the ears- especially if they have stand up ears. Don't worry, she will be fine. Its not an emergency. If she is doing tomarrow, then maybe be worried.
It's not good for dogs to get water in their ears..use a cotton ball to soak it up..You should also put them in their ears while they get a bath.. If your dogs ears need cleaned get a formula from the vet.. The stuff you get at stores will keep the dogs ear wet and lead to ear infections and cause yeast to grow down in there.
