We are getting a lurcher puppy
The owners think that the mother has some Saluki in her and the father could be a bull terrier cross lurcher. Does anyone have any advice on training - my main worry is letting this dog off the lead - will it ever come back?
(We are going to go to dog training classes and realise that we are going to need to do a lot of training).
Does anyone have any positive things to say about these kinds of dogs?
Answers:My daughter's godmother had a lurcher for years and he was a beautiful placid-natured dog who was a great family pet. He loved to run (and with the cross you mention, yours probably will too) but get the training done early on and you shouldn't have too many problems.
The idea is to train the puppy first where there are no distractions, then gradually move to places like the park. Try an enclosed dog park first, if you have one near you, and carry on the training there. Then you can move to a more open area.
Puppy pre-school is great, congrats on following that route. You learn so much about dogs in general, you get expert advice plus your puppy gets to socialise with others in a safe environment. Good luck - enjoy your puppy!
Please ignore the idiot above...cross-breeds can be the most faithful, loving pets of all.
We have a "jack russell crossed with something" *****. We are unsrure of what her mix is because she was a rescue dog but they are certainly NOT useless!
