We changed from carpet to laminate flooring on our stairs to the second floor of our house. Now our ****-zu dog is scared to go up and down the stairs. Instead he sits there and barks until someone picks him up and carries up or down. This is getting to be a pain. Has anyone had this problem? What did you do about it?

Actually one of the best and easiest things to do is to first quit carrying the dog down, because this will make the dog dependant on you. Then, buy a runner for the stairs.

You could just let the dog get used to them, the problem is laminate stays slippery a long time and without messing it up the dog might keep doing what he/she is doing. While a carpet runner will give a little place for the dog to go up and down and can be aestetically pleasing as well if the right one is purchased

Laminate flooring is very slippery!

I dont blame the dog for not wanting to go up and down the stairs. He will at some point get brave and ventur up the stairs but he's going to have to get used to the new surface first.

Going froma floor her can get a grip on to one where their is no grip will take some getting used to by your little ShihTzu!

he's probably scared to go up or down the stairs because they are slippery. you could put a rug runner on the stairs. that way he can go up and down the stairs without worrying about slipping and hurting himself.

run a skinny carpet (or 1 of those things that goes under your carpets to keep them from sliding) up the stairs

put small carpet treads on the stairs. make sure they have the no-slip backing on them. the dog should be fine then.
