We just got a puppy & we cant get him to sleep through the night, we cant let him cry because of2007-11-25 2:50:18

We live in apartments and can't let him cry all night! any help would be great!

Answers:

He can't sleep through the night because his bladder is so little, he needs to go out every few hours. Plus he's probably pretty lonely. I've had my pup for two weeks now and we still have to get up in the middle of the night for him to do his business. I keep my pup in his crate next to my bed, makes it a bit easier to keep him quiet. I also live in an apartment so I totally understand not wanting to bother your neighbors.

move his bed next to yours and when he wakes up in the night, either pet him or talk to him to let him know that you are right there. He is doing it because he is scared. He will grow out of it.

our puppy did the same thing but we had him in a crate. finally we gave up and let him sleep with us in the bed. maybe he is cold or scared. try to hold him like a baby. after all that is what a puppy is. good luck.

Get an old fashioned wind up alarm clock and place it in its bed with him.. the sound of the ticking will sooth him... If this does not work, get a stuffed animal and place it in the bed with him, he will think its another pup and cuddle up with it and sleep...

Keep him in your room so he knows you are close, but it's very likely he is waking up and needing to go outside. Also if you take a pair of your shoes and put them on the floor in front of the crate, the puppy can smell your smell and assumes that you are right there close by.
