Parvovirus is a viral disease of dogs. It affects puppies much more frequently than it affects adult dogs. The virus likes to grow in rapidly dividing cells. The intestinal lining has the biggest concentration of rapidly dividing cells in a puppy's body. The virus attacks and kills these cells, causing diarrhea (often bloody), depression and suppression of white blood cells -- which come from another group of rapidly dividing cells. In very young puppies it can infect the heart muscle and lead to "sudden" death. This is a very serious disease. Some puppies infected with parvovirus will die despite prompt and adequate treatment. While no extremely accurate statistics are available, a good guess is probably that 80% of puppies treated for parvovirus will live. Without treatment, probably 80% or more of the infected puppies would die.

it is a virus that can kill your dog. they throw up, and have bloody diarrhea. there is a very strong smell that come with it. the animal get dehydrated, and dies. there are vaccinations for parvo. your dog should get them when they get there puppy shots, and then they receive a booster once a year. If your dog does get parvo you will have to disinfect your whole house, and yard, because the virus will continue to live there.

start vaccinating right now for this because Parvo is horrible. We had a dog die from it years ago, at that time we had never heard of Parvo where we live in Ohio, so it was new to us. Yes, certain dogs are more linkely to get it and they say it originates from raccoons. I have never heard of a dog fully surviving it either. I witnessed it first hand, and if you can get past the signt, you WON'T get past the odor, omg, it is devestating to both the animal and the pet. The vet we saw before our dog died totally mis diagnosed the disease too. Get all the vacinnations because it's is very sad.
