What R the signs of a Bee sting on a dogs corner of the mouth
What are the signs of a bee sting on a dogs mouth? His mouth does not seem to bother him he is eating/drinking etc he was fine but when I let him out in the morning the corner of his lip looked a little pink & swolen he is a GSD so as you all know they have hard mouth so you usually do not see the lips
it looks like it has a scab on it but trying to hold him still to have a look is a nightmare he gets really excited.
He is not keen on going vets as they hurt him last time & he has never forgotten. I cant muzzle him cause it is the part they need to see.
Any ideas?
Answers:I have a Dobie that has a bad habit of trying to catch bees in her mouth. Twice I have had to take her to the emergency vet ( of course both times were on a Sunday when my vet was closed). She has a severe allergic reaction to bee stings and her face swells something terrible. They give her a shot & put her on Benadryl. The dosage for that is 1/2 mg. per lb every eight hours. as directed by this site http://animalsunlimited.net/meds.htm... But the vet gave my dog 25mg pills & was told to give her 2 pills at one time twice a day. She weighed between 65-70lbs. Do watch for breathing difficulties. If you notice anything abnormal rush him to the vet ASAP. Good Luck. EDIT: Since he has done this before you are probably fortunate & he doesn't get a reaction!!!
get some piriton for kids(tablet form)from chemist and give him one.i paid 拢20..$40 equivallent for exact same thing at vets but was told by vet that is what to do next time!!.watch it in case his throat swells that is dangerous.my dog just looked odd when he was stung like a wider mouth than usual.tablet works quickly.
From what you described it could be a sting. If it has been hours and not swollen up much he is fine. As long as it goes down in a doy or so he should be fine. You didn't say how old but mouth cancers are common in older dogs so please get him to a vet if it is still swollen in a couple of days or gets worse. Rescue Remedy often helps calm a dog down for vet visits.
They will get a small sometimes hard red bump where they were stung. It usually doesn't bother them but getting stung too many times at once or by certain bees may cause a reaction so I would get the bee situation taken care of. As long as he is eating/drinking and breathing normally I wouldn't worry about taking him in-he'll be okay. My Dane got stung last year about 5 times so hopefully she has learned not to try to eat the bees this year:>)
Don't medicate your dog with out consulting a vet first, the amount they can have varies according to their weight, etc. If it is a bite, and there are no allergic reactions, just treat it as you would a normal bee sting, apply an antihistamine cream. If is has not improved by the morning or worsens consult a vet. He might not like going to see them but it's avisable.
