What age can puppies start using flea and tick controllers2007-11-25 2:50:25

i have a 9 week old puppy. he is pretty much house broken, so he is often outside where fleas can get to him. i read some flea and tick applicators are for dogs 6mos and up. what do people do about the puppies with a potential flea problem?

Here are a few products.

K9-ADVANTIX is... for puppies 7 weeks or older.

FRONTLINE PLUS.. is for puppies over 8 weeks.

FRONTLINE SPRAY.. is for puppies and kittens OVER 8 weeks.

ADVANTAGE is.. for puppies over 7 weeks.

CAPSTAR is.. for puppies 4 weeks of age and over 2 lbs.

ADAMS is ..NOT for pets under 12 weeks.

PREVENTIC.. ( tick collar) is for puppies OVER 12 weeks.

BIO-SPOT.. is for dogs and puppies 6 months or over.

CUTTER... is for puppies 3 months or older.

PROGRAM ORAL TABLETS..is for puppies 6 WEEKS or older.

Make sure that you clean the pets bedding and any place that he may go. Flea bomb your house if needed. If left untreated the flea infestation will still occur

Most flea/tick controllers require the pup to be 3 months, but if you go to the online pharmacies, there is at least one that is now available for puppies.

You can also find a spray foam that you work into the hair and then rinse out with water. You may be able to use a topical flea spray like one made by Adams, as well.

Your best bet is your vet. Besides flea and tick prevention, he'll need his shots and worming.

Use a bath with dish soap in it, making sure to saturate the fur all the way to the skin. Comb the face and head following the bath with a flea comb and be sure to be thorough. Follow by checking every few days for more outbreaks from hatching eggs and repeat as necessary.
