Don't get a dog for protection.. They are a good deterrant, but if you need protecting from something, a dog isn't the right way to go.. If you truly need protecting, dogs can be poisoned, stolen etc. Pets are for loving and caring for, not there to take care of your butt... If you get a dog for your protection, you are suggesting that he is disposable..

Well, I've had a pit bull and a peek-a-pom and they have both been great guard dogs. How about a cocker spaniel? It's not too big and not too small and they are extremely smart.

German Shepards, komondors, American labs... all of them work... but dont just judge by size... some huge dogs, like the Newfoundland are total pushovers!
