What are some ways to prevent my dog from jumping on people2007-11-25 2:51:04

(Jack Russel Terrier) She understands when I tell her "no" when she does it, but give her some time, she'll run around and do again either when I'm not paying real close attention, or just not there to begin with. When I greet her, I always ask her to sit and if she jumps, try to turn my back to her. Sometimes she calms down, other times she just keeps her paws on my back leg. I have other family that greet her wrong and have tried to train them to not greet the dog when she's on your leg, but they just don't get it. So I'm at a small loss right now.

i would try keeping her on a leash when other people come over for the first 15 min..make her sit, don't let the people come in till she sits and calms down..then let them in, make sure they do not pay her any attention, don't rile her up or anything especially if she is over excited..keep her on the leash and keep reminding her to sit down..if you do let her off the leash and she tries to jump on them then, just tell them to put their knee out or their foot out to lightly push her away and say no when they do it..its not acceptable and tell them that..you have to live with it they don't..

When people come tell him to sit and stay. If he doesnt jump, reward him. It will take some time, but it worked with my dog.
i hope these help you

What I've always done is, when they go to jump up, just lift up your knee and tell them "down" at the same time. They'll bump their chest, and it usually doesn't take them too long to figure it out.
I would suggest trying to kneel down to her level whenever you come home and greet her, so she won't have to jump up on you. This will help to calm her down so that maybe she will not jump up on you afterwards. Dogs just get overly excited and thats there reaction to showing you their pleasure in seeing you! I would also ask your guest to do this, also. If it continues, you will just have to take the time and patience to train her not to jump.
Perhaps you need to take the dog to obedience classes.
