What are the causes of a dog to get a seizure2007-11-25 2:50:31

I washed my dog in the morning outside perhaps the hose water was too cold and later in the evening she went on her side in the garage and stiffened her paws and it only lasted a few minutes but it was scary. I immediately took her to the vet and the vet said she was OK. Her owner has recently died and she is very close to me and gets stressed when I go to work and stays by me every minute. Recently I left to Florida also for a week and she was very sad about that too. I have been reading on the internet and it says that holistic food is good for seizures.

Dogs are a lot like humans and seizures can be brought on by several things such as neurologicacl defects to stress. Sounds to me like this pet has had alot of stress lately and the seizures could possibly subside. The main thing for you to do is just make sure the dog doesn't cause itself harm while the seizures occur. i.e. make sure it doesn't bump its head. The holistic food approach is probably alittle far fetched for a dog. But heck try it if you like.

There are many causes. It may have an infection, some diseases cause seizures and also extreme stress. She may have gotten into something also. If she continues to have them have the vet do a work up on her to determine the cause.

If there is no other medical condition, then the seizure is probably caused by epilepsy. Each episode lasts a few minutes, looks terrible but actually isn't. They're ok once it's over.
