What breed of dog should i get2007-11-25 2:50:37

My dads birthdays coming up and I wanted to get him a small puppy to keep him company during the day. I'm just not sure of what breed to go with... he would want something small that could act as a little guard dog but at the same time nothing thats going to be annoying him too much during the day i.e yapping, digging... can anyone suggest anything? I was thinking maybe a pug, I've heard they have a bit of attitude and make good guard dogs but are really lazy which would be perfect... the budget just doesnt quite stretch that far though! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

If you really want a pug, try some local shelters and rescue groups in your area. Also, check the sites below, where you can pick the size of dog you want, but you don't have to list a breed. Also, the last website has all dog breeds on it. Good luck!

I would say some kind of terrier. They're usually tough, hardy and make good guard dogs. Avoid anything 'miniature' or 'toy', they will be more likely to be an annoying yapper who wees everywhere. Jack Russells are a good little dog, or a scottish terrier. Maltese Terriers are often good for older people because they're a bit less active; my grandparents had one and she was great. I have an Australian Terrier and she's the best dog I've ever had. You could also go for some kind of spaniel, they are a small to medium breed.

First Check you animal shelter they can tell you the breed or what they believe the breed to be. Also ask your dad what his favorite dog is and base your choice off of that. Of course be subtle when you ask.maybe suggestions for you or your friend on what dog would be best for you?

A Jack Russell would suit, they are good watch dogs,and are fearless, and really good company,don't get a pug, whilst they are so cute, they do not handle the hot weather too good, have a lot of breathing difficulties, always panting
