What breed of dog to get2007-11-25 2:50:37

hi i am a new member to this site, i am looking into getting a pup, i want a small dog (lap dog), i was thinking about a yorkie or westie. i have 3 children 8,9 and 10, all a very respectfull of animals so no worries that they will be too rough, i have found information on internet, but can anyone give me any advise, i do not want a dog which requires too much excersice, one which would be happy with a walk i.e. to and from school which is about a 1/2hr each way twice a day. i only work 2 mornings a week so would not be left for very long periods. also which sex would be best either one will be neutered/spayed. any advice would be appreciated. thanks in advance

Cavalier king charles spaniel, they are cute small friendly. It doesnt matter what sex but they do need to be neutered/spayed. Bitches tend to be more excitable.

i would say a chow chow they look like a bear,not a lap dog tho,but dont need much exercise at all and love kids boy dogs are normal better coz they dont have seasons

I've always had big dogs but when my personal circumstances changed drastically many years ago I got a rescue Shi Tzhu (sorry not well today spelling could be wrong) she was amazing and if I had to 'down size' again I would deffinitely get another.

If you're after a small dog then a yorkie or westie is an ideal choice, one i will warn you about is a jack russell and they are not the best dog as they have a nasty temper we found that out as we had one and my sister was playing withit and it turned on her and bit her right through her top lip (put a hole in her lip) and they clamp their jaws shut so we couldn't get it off.
