What breed of dog would b good for my family and I2007-11-25 2:50:37

My mom wants to get a pug. I would also like to get a dog but not sure what breed i should get. I plan on exercising them daily and taking care of there every need. I would like a small or medium sized dog. We want to get the puppies around the same time so they can grow up together. I also have 2 guinea pigs, and was wandering how would a dog react to them?

I would get a Beagle. They are great family dogs, a blast to play with, and love everyone. Our dogs get along fine with our cat as well as all other dogs. I have a purebread beagle and also a beagle from a rescue. I never would have thought this before but the rescue beagle is so much more loving and you can tell she really appreciates every bit of attention she gets.

I would suggest that you look at an organization like www.bonesbeagles.org they have a lot of great dogs available that need a good home.

Golden retriever may be a bit big to play with a pug!! Cocker Spaniels are mad and very lively but are also Really lovely. Try your local rescue centre (shelter) they always have dogs and pups for re-homing. my last 2 have been med. size X breeds, Both loving, sociable and generally little stars. X-breeds often live longer as well so you could maybe get a dog up to about 18mths-2yrs as it would still grow with your mum's pup. Good luck and enjoy!

if u want a dog that will like exercise a pitbull would be the answer because the are naturally strong and they would not react to the guinea pigs at all.

I just got a german shephard pup yesterday, but I used this site to determine what dog would be best for me. It asks you questions like what energy level, short/long hair, temperment, etc... Then it provides you with a list of around ten breeds. Just a useful site if you have no idea what to get.

Labrador. Lovely natures, easily trained and are not bred to kill but to retrieve so should not be too big a threat to the guinea pigs (although any dog could be). They are generally good in a family because they are not easily upset by change, visitors, lack of routine and all the other imponderables of family life.
