What can I do to make my hyperactive dog chill2007-11-25 2:50:44

He's like a toddler, requiring waaaay too much attention about every 15 min. I can't get any work done. And if I don't play with him as much as he wants, he pouts and miserable, sometimes guilt-trips me by whimpering. I let him outside, I play with him, but the party never ends for this pooch! Any ideas?

PS: He's a 3yr old Chihuahua/ Pomeranian mix

Haha!!! That answers your question right away! Pomerainians and Chihuahuas are dogs who have been pampered for years, and also provoke big dogs like German Sheperds and most of the time won't even listen to us humans. Anyways he's a puppy, give him at LEAST half an hour of play a day, or until he's tired! If you don't have the time, you can buy him more toys or you can buy another dog for him to play with. You could also send him to "Doggie Day camp" at Petsmart for a day, and he will surely be tired after that!

Well it's pretty much a breed thing. You really need to give him more exercise.

At 3 years old that dog is in the PRIME of his life and feeling his oats. He wants to RUN. he needs to RUN every day for a good hour. Take him to the park or a large grassy yard. Work him out hard. he wants to RUN!

There really isn't much you can do, he will mellow out on his own when he's older...have you considered getting another doggy? If he had a pal he would probably play with them the whole time so you could get work done

My vet actually told me to give my dog Benadryl when she gets anxious but you might want to check into that. It worked for me but your dog is probablyh smaller than mine lol.
