What can I do w/ my cocker spaniel
This is kind of a long story but I'll try to make it short. I got a cocker spaniel puppy in January. I had no problems w/ house training her. The only problem I have w/ her is that she urinates when she gets excited or when new people come over. I've tried to do the diaper thing but those are too expensive and she's began chewing them off. I decided2 weeks ago I would sale her and had no problem w/ finding a person to buy her. She had owned cocker spaniels before so she understood the urination problem. Well yesterday she called me wanting to know if she could bring her back. She said she's depressed acting, and not only is she peeing when she gets excited but she was also pooping as if from stress. So I took her back, however now I really can't keep her b/c I'm moving into a house that doesn't allow pets and I'd signed the lease the day before the lady called me back. I love the dog and I don't want to keep getting rid of her b/c I don't know if this will be too traumatic. Any advice?
Answers:It's hard to deal with excitment urination, it's one of the signs of a submissive dog, and unfortunatly the only way to make it better (sometimes only better, it doesn't always go away) is to ignore it. I've seen it a lot in cocker spaniels, particularly females.
Your best bet if you absolutely have to give her up is to research a local cocker spaniel rescue on the internet and contact them, they will know exactly what to do and will carefully screen the next home to make sure it's a permanant one.
