What can i do about dog dandruff2007-11-25 2:50:38

hi i have a 6 yr old female black lab, she used to have a beautiful shiny coat but now it seems thick and dull, when i brush her , dandruff apears,and lots of it, is there anything i can add 2 her diet? like and egg? she is on bakers complete just now,

any advice on shampoos? or cod liver oil?

You can also try putting fishoil on your dogs food, it's a great tool for helping with putiing moisture back into your dogs skin and coat. Or you could go to the vets and see about getting some vitamins that they sell specifically made to help with thte dogs skin and coat to help reduce dandruff. Good Luck.

the best thing that i could reccomend to to is go to the vet and get the right shampoo you dont want to try alots of other things is might creat more problems for her

A salmon oil capsule daily will make a tremendous difference in her coat - good for the skin, too. Or a tablespoon of vegetable oil on her food daily. An egg or two a week (it can be raw if you like) also helps. Other than that, if she's on a top quality dog food, you need to make sure you're not bathing too often because that's very drying.

You can try adding a tablespoon full of oil, or bacon grease to the diet, but do not do it every day at first, you can cause diarrhea.
