What causes foaming at the mouth in dogs2007-11-25 2:50:51

My 5 month old Yorkshire Terrier was laying down and start to have seizure and began to foam at the mouth. She was the runt has a bad heart. Does that have anything to do with it? Any idea what it is?

rabies? choking? poisoning? bad hearts can cause fluid in the lungs but that normally results in a cough not foam.

My mother's yorkie had epilepsy, it was sad. He would foam from time to time when he had a seizure. Consult the vet. I've heard of this in other yorkies as well (not just limited to that breed) We started him on the pills (phenobarbitol) but then we found out that rips kidneys and livers apart. We let him go without it. He had maybe 6-7 episodes per year and lived until he was 15. We put him down in March of this year. It's scary to be apart of, its also scary not knowing what is best for him. I don't know if I offered a real answer or any adivce, but that's my story.

Call the vet. Either your dogs got rabies or has been poisened. My Chihuahua foams a bit and has seizures if he walks on lawn treatments. Best to get him an appointment within the next day!

like these say choking, dehydration, rabies could be anything id take it straight to the vets.
