Haha, you know noone has any clue, my personal dog does the same thing, in fact hell even take a dump, turn around and eat it right on the spot! He's disgusting, but anyways some of them just like it, and its usually the ones who will eat anything they can get ahold of, not much you can do about it, sorry i couldn't help more.

They like it. Cat litter trays are like cookie jars to dogs. I would not worry about it too much, dogs eat other types of poop as well, like bird poo and rabbit poo. Its normal dog behaviour. If your dog eats its own poo however, it can be a sign of malnutrition and you should talk to your vet about it.

i don't know if this is true or not but i've heard that cat food and subsequently the poop has more sugar in it than dog food and that's why dogs like it. again, i don't know if that's true or not. all i know is that my dogs consider the litter box a damn kitty cookie buffet!

You've just asked the 63-million-dollar question. If there's ever a scientific study done to find out why, I want to know.

Some say it's due to the higher protein in cat poop because of the higher protein in their food. I don't think it's been proven.

I've decided dogs eat cat poop because to THEM, it tastes good. I'm curious to see other theories. : )

Cat's diets (and cat's food) is comprised of mostly protein. It has a very strong, "meaty" smell to dogs. It smells to them like burgers on the grill might smell to us. Without going into gross detail, their sense of smell is much better than ours, and they find the "poop" appealing, thus, they sniff it out, and consume it as they would a regular meal.

I don't know, maybe they like it? My dog doesn't like lettuce- so he doesn't eat it. So I'm guessing since he's eating the cat poop- he likes it.

My dog gets into the cat litter box whenever we don't have it closed off- it's discusting!
